A brief History of Kol Shalom Messianic Ministries and Fellowship
Kol Shalom Messianic Ministries formed in 1999 out need in the Harrisburg, Pa. area, when a long standing Messianic Shul closed after many years serving the community. Initially carrying over members from that congregation, Keter Yeshua was formed under the KSMM covering and chartered as a ministry by M.B.I. USA. Keter Yeshua lasted about 8 months as a havurrah group in the Harrisburg /Lemoyne area attempting to make up for the loss of RoehYisrael. With relocation of several leaders, and personal issues on another leaders part the fellowship was closed and most of us drifted to other congregations farther away. KSMM retained it's autonomy and continued its job as a resource providing answers to people searching for Messianic congregations , teachings, music, and emotional support. As time went on Several attempts were made to establish a congregation in the area, however the time was not yet right.
In mid 2005 Roeh Clayton Young Messianic Minister Intern continued ministering in music in the Susquehanna Valley and central PA area and made his way home to to sing at two of the churches he sang at as a youth. He received a warm welcome . and continued the music minstry as the organization continued to grow .
In 2006 Kol Shalom continued as a resource to Messianic Believers in the Southern Susquehana Valley and with the passing of Rabbi David Hargis and reorganization of M.B.I. Kol Shalom Messianic Ministries Joined The Coalition of Torah Observant Congregations,C.T.O.M.C. , a newly formed covering and supportive organization in the Messianic Movement , as a Chartered Member Ministry. in 2007 the need surfaced in the York County /Lancaster County area for a Messianic Jewish Congregation Kol Shalom Messianic Fellowship /Synagogue came into being as an itinerate ministry conducting services when interest was shown .
In 2008 Roeh Clay during personal Celebration of the Shabbat came to the understanding that the time was right to begin a full congregation in York , PA. In Sept 2008 Roeh Clay received his setting apart as an Ordained Messianic Minister , under the covering and accountability of CTOMC ( based in Halifax ,Nova Scotia) after much planning and preparation ,Messianic Synagogue Kol Shalom came into existance in 2010 .
Kol Shalom partnered with a newly named Changing Destinies Outreach under the leadership of Founder Mike Streavig , of Dallastown PA. and we worked with Mike in this homeless ministry on a regular basis until , and after we were offered the use of his shop for services .
It's first Official service was held in September 2010 in the main storefront of Streavig's auto center in Dallastown PA. There were 30 persons in attendance for the first service and this number remained fairly constant for several weeks, then stabilized at about 14 persons. In December 2010 we held out first annual holiday dinner with 50 people in attendance , the following week we were told there would be no service due to weather . Our congregation suffered greatly between December and May and we missed all services due to "logistical" problems . We began services in mid May and had several services before other issues arose that nearly ended our existence, including the transitioning of Streavig's automotive service from the ownership of Mike Streavig to His son Bert. after this transition we were asked to no longer hold services at his location and we became a congregation without a home.
We began worshiping at the home of Roeh Clay and at York Township Park as an active, Chartered Ministry, under the covering of CTOMC ( The Coalition of Torah Observant Messianic Congregations),based in Halifax Nova Scotia. and we serve as the covering organization for Changing Destinies Outreach on an ongoing basis.
In august 2011 we were offered the use of the facilities of the Family Worship Center of Red Lion. After a lot of prayer and communication with the current members of the congregation and after consulting with the Lead Rabbi at CTOMC we decided to accept the offer and began holding services for High Holy Days 2011 begining with erev Rosh Hashanah . Please join us for shabbat services and Holiday services throughout the year , as well as Torah studies ,Hebrew classes, and ,leadership training programs as we build new bridges and repair old ones between Traditional andMessianic Judaism as well as between Messianic Judaism and the larger body of Messiah
Oct 16, 2011 Kehilah Kol Shalom held it's first Annual Sukkot Celebration with 14 people in attendance. Not only a great success but a wonderful start to the new face of Kehilah Kol shalom. Join us each week as we develop our liturgy and educational system focused on Torah ,Tradition, Yeshua, And a love for HaShem on all levels. We are no longer just another Messianic Synagogue.
